Here I employ a basic landscape technique to photograph a lake. I step back and include the foreground, so the lake has a sense of place and the lake's surface isn't so vast. The boat carriage has strong diagonal lines to lead you into the composition. The two small sailboat frame the men sitting.
Learn to compose without the camera to you eye. When you think your composition looks good, then quickly fine-tune and shoot.
